Whether you are considering moving to New Hampshire or you have lived here your entire life, Hampstead, NH is one of the best southern New Hampshire small towns. You might think with a population of just over 8,500, there would not be much to this small town, but Hampstead and the surrounding area have a lot to offer. Our new Winchester Heights 55+ Condominium Community is a fantastic place to call home in Hampstead.
Community Events
The annual Holiday Parade is a longstanding tradition on Main Street. Each December, residents from Hampstead and surrounding areas line the streets of scenic NH Rt. 121 as community organizations and local businesses show their holiday spirit with fun and entertaining floats and performances (and btw, Lewis Builders is proud to be a former winner of the Best Float Award).
Gain a true sense of community by attending the Summer Concert series Tuesday nights at Meetinghouse Park. Despite being a small New Hampshire town, this concert series draws many residents, friends, and family, creating a fair-like atmosphere.
Proximity to Major Cities
It is just far enough from major cities to make it possible to disengage while still having easy access. In under an hour, you can make your way to Boston, Manchester, or Portsmouth. Each city has its appeals. Boston has a lot of history and beautiful views. You can spend the day shopping at Faneuil Hall or walking the Freedom Trail, then sit down at a nice restaurant for dinner. Manchester has many activities for all different interests. It is home to the Currier Museum of Art, the Palace Theatre, and the Northeast Delta Dental Stadium, where you can catch a New Hampshire Fisher Cats game. Portsmouth is a beautiful coastal city; you can take a walking tour or hop on one of the harbor cruises to experience all of the sights. The cities are close by, but at the end of the day, you can make your way back to your small, quiet hometown.
Opportunities for an Active Lifestyle
Staying active is essential to many people, and the trails throughout Hampstead are a great way to do that. With countless trail route options between the town’s multiple conservation areas, you’ll feel a real sense of New Hampshire and its natural habitat.
If you are interested in more of a challenge, you can head to the mountains, like Mount Major, and hike to the top to appreciate the gorgeous view. Walking trails are a great way to stay active and enjoy the outdoors.
Summers on the Beach
During the summer months, you can soak up the sunshine by the ocean or on a lake. Locally, Hampstead has its very own town beach on Sunset Lake off of Ellis Rd. Hampton Beach is just a 40-minute drive from Hampstead, and you can spend the day on the beach or take a walk down the boardwalk to enjoy some beach pizza and fried dough. The Lakes Region is about 1 hour and 15 minutes away and you can spend the day on one of the public beaches on any of the lakes or rent a boat for a day out on the water. Whether you prefer the ocean or a lake, New Hampshire has it.
Local Businesses Build Community
Supporting local businesses in a small town helps you get to know your neighbors and build connections within the community. Right in Hampstead, you can visit Sweet Baby Vineyards for a tasting of their award-winning wines. Sweet Baby Vineyards grows many of their own grapes, and the fruit for their fruit wine comes from local farmers. They support New Hampshire farmers and donate 10% of their profits to them. East Coast Lumber & Building Supply is another local business that has Hampstead roots back to 1976. As a builder, we rely on their exceptional service and timely delivery of materials. They also host a magnificent kitchen and bath design center along with an equipment shop for builders, contractors, and homeowners alike.
Tax-free Shopping
Tax-free New Hampshire is the place you want to be for shopping. Living in Hampstead, you are just a short drive away from the Mall at Rockingham Park in Salem, where you can find many of your favorite stores. This two-story mall is the largest in New Hampshire and has over 140 stores and restaurants for you to choose from.
